چکیده
By RALPH C. LKE AND Tii-t s H. J. HuI5MAN T HREE possible variants of Hb-A2 ( a262) with abnormal 6 polypeptide chains have been discovered, namely, Hb-A2’ or Hb-B2 in the Negro race,1’2’4’#{176}”1 Hb-K#{246}ln in one family of German descent13 and Hb-Fbatbush in a family of Puerto Rican ancestry.’4 In this communication, we report the results of studies of an abnormal minor hemoglobin component, which was observed in four members of a Negro family. The abnormality showed close resemblance to Hb-Flatbush. If further studies prove it to be identical, this report then descrbes the second family with this hemoglobin abnormality.

Two 13 - Chain Abnormal Hemoglobins in One Individual
By TITUS H. J. HuIS sL&rc AND RALPH C. LEE I N A PREVIOUS PAPER6 we reported the discovery of an abnormal minor hemoglobin in a Negro family ( Fam. S ) in Georgia. This hemoglobin, designated as Hb-Flatbush0 , showed the following properties : ( a ) an electrophoretic mobility ( starch gel electrophoresis at pH 8.1 ) intermediate between Hb-S and Hb-F; ( b ) a chromatographic mobility ( DEAE-ce...
متن کاملHemoglobin Daneshgah-Tehran (HBA1:c.218A>G p.His72Arg): a Rare α1-Globin Variant from Iran
There are more than 400 different variations on α-globin protein, and most of them are not associated with noticeable clinical manifestation. Hemoglobin (Hb) is an oxygen-transporting protein and Hb Daneshgah- Tehran is an α-globin variant that for the first time was reported from Iran in a case with normal haematological indices. The capillary electrophoresis of an 8-year- old-girl with normal...

H EMOGLOBIN J was first reported in an American Negro family by Thorup et al.’ in 1956. Subsequently, it has been found in Indonesians,2’ East Indians,4’5 French-Canadians,6 Chinese,7 a Negro-Caucasian,5 and most recently in a family of Hawaiian-Chinese-Caucasian ancestry.’ The hemoglobin “Liberian I” described by Robinson et al.’” was formerly’ designated as hemoglobin J but recently has been ...
متن کاملChromatographic measurements of hemoglobin A2 in blood samples that contain sickle hemoglobin.
In the sickle cell syndromes, Hb A2 measurements aid in the differential diagnosis of sickle cell anemia from sickle-beta-thalassemia. The purpose of this study is to assess the Hb A2 levels in samples containing sickle hemoglobin (Hb S) by the use of an automated high performance liquid chromatography system (HPLC-Variant beta-thalassemia Short Program). The blood samples analyzed were from in...

A new sickling hemoglobin variant designated hemoglobin &arlem (Hb C,) migrated slightly anodally to the position of hemoglobin C on electrophoresis at pH 8.6, and has been shown to have the structure (rt fll G1u + ““n I3 *w’ Asn. Hemoglobin CH comprised 40% of the hemoglobin in individuals of two generations of an American Negro family and is the first instance in which two amino acid substitu...
